Tretizen is part of a class of medications known as retinoids. These retinoids function by decreasing the production of sebum (the oily substance) from skin glands, lowering bacteria levels, alleviating inflammation, and unblocking congested pores.
Tretizen is intended for treating severe acne. While various medications exist for acne treatment, Tretizen is typically prescribed for more severe instances that do not respond to other therapies. It diminishes the oil secretion from the skin's oil glands and promotes faster skin renewal. Specifically, Tretizen is used to manage severe nodular acne and is generally prescribed only after other acne medications or antibiotics have proven ineffective.
Take Tretizen precisely as instructed by your healthcare provider. Avoid taking larger or smaller doses or using it for a longer duration than advised. Adhere to the instructions on your prescription label, and remember that each Tretizen prescription must be filled within 7 days of being issued. You will not receive more than a 30-day supply at one time.
Always take Tretizen with a full glass of water to avoid the capsule melting in your esophagus, which may lead to irritation. Do not chew or suck on the capsule; swallow it promptly. It is recommended to take Isotretinoin with food or milk. Continue taking Tretizen for the entire duration prescribed by your doctor. Initially, your acne may appear to worsen, but it should subsequently improve. To monitor for potential harmful effects, regular blood tests may be required, including assessments of liver function. Attend regular check-ups with your doctor.
Potential side effects include: joint pain, back pain; feelings of dizziness, drowsiness, or anxiety; dryness of the lips, mouth, nose, or skin; cracking or peeling skin, itching, rash, and changes in fingernails or toenails.
